Who is Kye Smith?
Kye Smith is a videographer, photographer, and drone operator based in Newcastle, NSW, with over 15 years of experience across corporate, education, infrastructure, and creative industries. He founded Kye Smith Creative to work directly with organisations and individuals who care about what their video actually does – not just how it looks.
Outside of work, Kye is a drummer and has built a following of over 300,000 across social platforms through that side of his life. It is a different world from corporate video production, but the understanding of what makes content connect with an audience carries across both.
Kye holds a ReOC certification for commercial drone operations and has built specialist capability in construction time lapse, live streaming, and AI-assisted video production. He works with a trusted network of contractors who join productions based on scope – so the crew always matches the project, and his oversight is constant regardless of team size.

Yes. I’m based in Newcastle and work regularly across Sydney and regional NSW. For the right project, I travel anywhere in Australia – and have done so. Travel costs are factored into the quote upfront so there are no surprises.

It starts with a conversation – understanding what you are trying to achieve, who the video is for, and what success actually looks like. The level of planning from there depends on the project. Some jobs need detailed preparation. Others just need a clear brief and a confirmed shoot date.
On the day, the crew is whatever the project needs. Every shoot is overseen and the edit managed personally. You will get a draft, a chance to give feedback, and a final file in whatever format you need.
Throughout all of it, communication is straightforward. You will always know where things are at.
